Chalk and Water
These two things are staples of our summer play.
chalk itself is fun on it's own (as is water play), but combined with water, chalk takes on a different texture (soft and feathery), becomes MUCH brighter, and there are many different ways to experiment with it. L always plays with chalk longer when water is involved!
-Turn it to powder, like we have done HERE
with a cheese grater, mortar and pestle, or by smashing it with a rock. Experiment by adding different amounts of water to create a paste (great for body painting!) or thinner colored water to paint with.
-Create a water puddle first and then draw in the puddle
-Dip the chalk into the water and then draw
-Let the chalk sit in water for a while so it becomes soft. When you draw with it, it will have a very paint like texture and effect. My son loves to do this.
-Draw on a dry surface with chalk and then pour or paint water (with a paint brush) onto the drawing.
